Hello! My name is Lisa Denning. I started this blog as a way to express my love and passion for food as well as the wine and spirits which I believe are an essential ingredient on every dining table.
Way back when, I was a Bates College graduate living the life in NYC. I had several jobs in the business world, mostly in publishing. I finally landed a great job in advertising sales at the highly esteemed New York Times. But each week I would find myself sitting at my desk, reading and clipping the recipes from the food section. I would call my best friend and say, "did you see such and such recipe? Doesn't that look so good?!" I felt more excited about those recipes than I did about the ad space I was selling. The funny thing is, I didn't know how to cook! Eventually I decided that my calling was probably not ad sales, but food and cooking so I quit my job and started a full time program at the French Culinary Institute. After graduating, I started my career in the food world by cooking in some of New York City's top restaurants. I also delved into catering and food styling, as well as recipe development for magazines.
My love of well-crafted food then spilled over into a passion for wine and spirits. Working for several years at Sherry-Lehmann Wine & Spirits in NYC, I had the opportunity to taste the highest quality wines and spirits of the world and meet with the people who make and market them. Currently I am a salesperson at the Grape Collective wine shop as well as a writer for their online magazine. Years of experience both as a chef and now as a wine professional have strengthened my ability to create memorable dining experiences. I would like to share all this with you, my readers! January 2017: The Wine Chef is nominated as one of 18 finalists for the 2017 Millesima Blog Awards! Each finalist received a magnum of 2011 Chateau Pichon Baron, 2nd Classified Growth in Pauillac and one of Chateau Suduiraut, 1st Classified Growth in Sauternes. Winners are awarded an all-expenses paid trip to Bordeaux during En Primeur week this April!!
