Sipping Your Way Through December—Day 4
/Welcome to the fourth installment of The Wine Chef’s December “Advent Calendar” wine series.
Troon Vineyard Druid’s Red 2024 (SRP $30)
Today’s feature, Troon Vineyard 2024 Druid’s Red, is a Rhône-style blend of 25% Syrah, 21% Cinsault, 20% Mourvèdre, 19% Carignan, and 15% Grenache, grown on Troon’s Biodynamic estate. It opens with bright red fruit aromas (cherry and blackberry), followed on the medium-bodied palate by gentle tannins and lively acidity, along with hints of leather, tobacco, smoke, earth, and plenty of that fresh fruit.
The wine is wonderfully drinkable with a modest 13% ABV—easy to enjoy any night of the week. Like all of Troon’s delightful wines, it’s a pure expression of Oregon’s Applegate Valley.
Holiday Gifting
Troon has put together a handful of wine gift sets that range from $80 to $145, all shipped for a flat $10. Today’s featured bottle is part of the Druid’s 4 Pack (for $120), which also includes the Druid’s Biodynamic White, Pink, and Amber blends, wines I can happily recommend.
Additionally, each set comes with a small taste of the farm itself, like a savory herb blend grown and dried on-site or a packet of seeds for next year’s garden—a thoughtful, delicious gift for anyone who loves wines with a sense of place.
Cheers to supporting eco-friendly wineries!
